Face Lift
Facelift cosmetic surgery is an effective
way to turn back the clock on years of aging. Wrinkling,
jowls, and sagging skin is part of the natural aging process
, and if you spend time in the sun, skin damage can prematurely
add years to your appearance. A facelift can rejuvenate skin
and restore a more youthful look by removing unwanted wrinkles
and excess skin on the face and neck. It is a surgical procedure
that is intended to tighten up loose skin and wrinkles, making
you look refreshed and about ten years younger.
In the facelift cosmetic surgery procedure, an incision is
placed inconspicuously along the hairline, under the chin,
or behind the ear. Facial and neck skin is then lifted and
tightened, and the excess skin is removed. To complete the
facelift, remaining skin is smoothed and sutured closed. The
procedure may take up to three hours, depending on your skin's
condition and desired results. Most patients experience only
minor pain and discomfort. Other side effects may include swelling,
bruising, numbness, and a tight feeling
Neck Lift
Face or neck lifts are surgical procedures
performed to reduce loose neck skin, wrinkles, excess fat
and tighten muscles in people over 40. It can take up to
five hours and can be done under local or general anesthetic.
Scars are hidden in the hair line and a one to two day
stay may be required. Although it can be done as a day
case. Neck lifts are usually a day surgery. Most people
take a couple of weeks off work especially as a neck lift
requires support bandages. Make up can be resumed after
7 days. As with all surgery there are risks and these include
infection, bleeding, poor healing excessive scarring. Your
surgeon is the best person to answer your questions.
Brow Lift
A brow lift is a surgical procedure
carried out to smooth forehead lines, tightening muscle,
skin and lifting the muscle to eradicate a heavy overhanging
brows It is usually done through small incisions using
an endoscope, takes one to two hours under local or general
anesthetic and the patient is usually an outpatient or
admitted for a day. If this procedure is pt of a face lift
a longer stay will be required. Temporary swelling, numbness
and bruising may ensue. Although rare, risks include injury
to the facial nerve, causing loss of motion, muscle weakness
and infection. Recovery is just a few days and a full recovery
from bruising can be 2 to 3 weeks. If you limit sun exposure,
this procedure can last up to ten years.
Eyelids
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure
performed on the upper and/or lower eyelids to remove excess
skin and fat from around the eyes giving a more youthful
appearance. It is performed under local or general anesthetic
as a day procedure and you can return to work within a
week although swelling may persist for up to 3 weeks. The
results can last from 5 to 10 years...
Nose (Rhinoplasty)
Rhinoplasty surgery improves the shape,
size and structure of the nose. Cosmetic, reconstructive
or simply unblocking the nose may be reasons to carry out
this procedure. This surgery can take 2 to 5 hours depending
on the type of surgery and is done under local and general
anesthesia. There will be temporary bruising around the
eyes and nose and you will be back to work in a week. You
must avoid injury to your nose and sunburn. The final result
can take up to four months and is permanent
Ears (Otoplasty)
Otoplasty is surgery often performed
on sticking out ears of children aged 5 to 6 before school
to prevent teasing. This procedure can be done in out patients
or as a day case under general anesthetic for small children
or local / general for adults. Temporary aching or bleeding
may ensure and the child can be back to school in a week
although excessive exercise should be avoided for about
3 weeks. Younger children may stay in hospital overnight.
Occasionally an ear will need to be redone, but you can
ask your plastic surgeon questions relating to this.
Tummy Tuck - Abdominoplasty
An increasingly popular procedure, a
tummy tuck flattens and thins the stomach area by surgically
removing excess skin and fat. A limited incision is made
I order to remove skin / fat and tighten muscle. This procedure
is particularly good after a C-section. Stretch marks may
also disappear. A waistline can be as much as several inches
thinner after a tummy tuck.
Arm, Buttocks and Thigh Lifts
Liposuction can sometimes be used on
flabby arms, a drooping bottom, and sagging inner or outer
thighs to restore a more youthful, shapelier look to those
with excess fat. If there is an excess of skin, however,
a lift must be performed surgically with the skin removed,
and there is the potential for scarring.
Breast Enlargement
The second most popular cosmetic surgery
procedure, a breast enlargement can contour the breasts.
Whether simply for larger breasts, to compensate for a
loss of size after childbirth and breast feeding, or for
those with uneven breasts, implants can add size, firmness
and rounding. A breast lift can be done by itself or in
combination with implants, for sagging breasts or breast
loss after a mastectomy. Implants are made of saline (biodegradable
salt waster) or silicone. The most common problem with
breast enlargements is hardening scar tissue, which may
be reduced by the positioning of the implant.
Breast Lift
A breast lift is a surgical procedure
to reshape and raise sagging breasts by removing the excess
skin that allows the breasts to droop. The breast is recon
toured, with the nipple lifted into a more youthful position.
The size of the areola can also be reduced. Implants are
often added along with lift surgery, for a fuller, rounder
appearance.
Breast Reduction
Mother Nature endowed some of us with
large breasts that may be disproportionate to body size
and can cause neck, back pain and grooves from bra straps.
A breast reduction can remove volume, put breasts in better
proportion to a woman's body, lift the areola, and relieve
discomfort.
Liposuction
Liposuction, the most commonly performed
plastic surgery procedure, is a volume reduction process
that removes unwanted fat from the upper thighs, hips, stomach
and "love handles". This procedure involves sucking out fat
beneath the skin with a vacuum. Other treatable areas include
the neck and fatty breasts. No tightening of the skin or
muscle is involved, so the procedure works best on those
with good skin elasticity and body tone. Excess skin and
muscle weakness will not be corrected with liposuction.
Liposuction involves sucking out fat beneath the skin with
a vacuum... The newest device that assists in liposuction is
the power assisted lipoplasty (PAL), a tool that aids contouring
with a more even removal of fat, along with less pain and swelling.
The device uses compressed air or nitrogen for power, along
with motion that eases the movement of fat in tissue, for easier
surgeon handling and less patient down time.
